Karine Hannah Delivers Unique Twist To Journey's "Separate Ways"

Karine Hannah has managed to find much success in the pop music realm. She has received many accolades throughout her music career. For instance, at the age of sixteen, her performance on a Canadian television show caught the eye of none other than Celine Dion. The world-renowned diva then went on to ask Karine to perform at her wedding. She then signed with Cash Money Records/Republic Records/Universal music. Karine is the only pop artist on their roster. Her debut single “Burning Up”, co-written and produced by Josh Harris was number 5 on the Billboard charts. Then her next single “Victory” co-written by Michael Jay landed in the top 10 on the Billboard charts. Despite the pandemic, Karine Hannah has a busy touring schedule and is planning to release a full album in 2022.

Karine Hannah delivers another unique cover with Journey’s classic “Separate Ways”. Originally inspired by Van Halen’s death she started reimagining classic songs, and slowly built an album. Stripping away from the standard eighties flowing synth, driving guitar and drum combo, and Steve Perry’s recognizable tone, you find a new, honest rendition. The simplistic instrumentals of just a piano allow Karine’s smoky power vocals to shine through. These lyrics of a love lost become more sincere as this ballad is slowed down and given more focus to what Karine is expressing. Her vocals are uplifted even more with soft angelic harmonies that help build the song’s ending. Karine’s interpretation of “Separate Ways” nostalgically reminds us of the deep meaning behind the lyrics of classic rock that are often glossed over.
